Colorado Pottery – Handmade, Colorado-Inspired Ceramics Collection

Thanks for your interest in my Colorado Pottery! These collections feature glazes colors that have been developed with my home state of Colorado as my inspiration. I hand-mix all of my glazes in small batches, and have developed these colors based on natural landscapes, locations and colors from my beautiful home state.

Mixing glaze is a game of many errors, and landing on success means that the glaze itself is stable/doesn’t run in the kiln, is food safe, and performs well with repeated use. But my Colorado pottery collection also brings in an element of Colorado’s nature, which has inspired my color palette and form design.

Below, you’ll find a bit of background on each collection. You can view my pottery, featuring these collections at my online shop.

Front Range Modern Speckle Collection

This simple, earthy pottery collection is where my dreams for what has become the Saved By Clay Studio began. At the foot of the Rockies, in the front range town of Golden, CO is where I rediscovered my love for pottery (after more than a decade away from clay). I reacquainted myself with the craft, and began to feel the pull toward the simple, angular and modern forms you see from me most often. I’ve continued to develop my aesthetic with a wider variety of forms and customized glazes, but I still enjoy coming back to this cheerful, modern collection.

Palisade Collection – Colorado Pottery

So much of our beautiful state is a high desert environment. These dry, arid landscapes are filled with unexpected colors, and stark landscapes. My Palisade collection features peachy tones (a nod to the famous ‘Palisade Peaches’ the region is known for). Late summer in Colorado means Palisade Peach road stands, and the best sticky, juicy peaches.

But there’s more to this glaze combo. The height of Mt. Garfield looming on the horizon… the way the peach trees are pruned, creating tidy lines of blooms below. Even the unique texture of the mesa. It’s all in there for me. Can you see it?

Blue Spruce Collection – Colorado Pottery

This collection of glazes celebrates the beauty of the Rocky Mountains. From the lush forests to tall and rocky peaks, Colorado’s nature has been central to my life for as long as I can remember. This pottery collection features some of my favorite colors. All are inspired by the (sometimes unexpected) hues found in nature in my home state.

Great Sand Dune Collection – Colorado Pottery

This National Park is a gem, and one of the most memorable places I’ve visited in our state. Getting lost in a sea of sand with the Rocky Mountains as a back drop is unreal.

This overlapping combination of warm, sandy and pinkish tones conveys the image of mounting dunes on the horizon… with the raw sections of clay giving added contrast. The way the layers of glazes interact is reminiscent of the way the sun lights up the dunes at sunrise.
